Telekom Austria seen bidding around 1.2 bln eur for Belarus's MDC - report

VIENNA (Thomson Financial) - Telekom Austria Group AG is likely to bid in the region of 1.2 bln eur for the Belarusian mobile network operator Mobile Digital Communications (MDC), according to unnamed company sources cited in the Austrian daily Die Presse.

Previous media reports had suggested that a takeover of MDC was likely to cost the Austrian telecom group more than 1.6 bln eur.

Negotiations between Telekom Austria and MDC's current owner, the Cyprus-based Samauwi Brothers Telecom, are at an advanced stage and are likely to be concluded in the next five to six weeks, according to the unnamed sources cited by Die Presse.
