EU Extends Belarus Ban

BRUSSELS -- The European Union intends to extend an entry ban on officials from Belarus to include individuals linked to the jailing of an opposition figure, a diplomat said Monday.

The EU in April barred entry to 31 figures, headed by President Alexander Lukashenko, in protest of his landslide re-election, which it denounced as blatantly rigged. The United States introduced similar measures.

The list is now to extend to four people linked to the conviction and jailing of Alexander Kozulin, one of two opposition figures who ran against the president in March. (Reuters)
