Police ask Lithuania to extradite suspected hitman

By YAAKOV KATZ

Tel Aviv Police have requested the extradition to Israel of a Lithuanian citizen who allegedly trained and led a team of assassins from Belarus who tried murdering known Israeli underworld figures Yaacov Alperon and Shoni Gavrieli - father of MK Inbal Gavrieli.

Marious Dainouskous fled Israel a month before the Belarus hitmen were apprehended in March 2004 and worked as a security guard in known Israeli underworld kingpin Assi Abutbol's Prague casino. In September 2004, a month after an assassination attempt on Abutbol's life, Dainouskous used a fake Israeli identity to leave Prague and enter Georgia.

Dainouskous was caught using the fake passport, was tried and is currently serving a prison term in Georgia. Police are awaiting the government's decision there regarding Dainouskous' extradition to Israel.
