Political relations between Belarus and Uzbekistan are at a rather high level, while visits of the both countries' officials promote the establishment of new socioeconomic ties, a Belarusian envoy said.

Nikolay Demchuk, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Uzbekistan, at a press conference in the Belarusian embassy on 21 September said: "The relations between our countries base on bilateral and multilateral documents. Uzbek and Belarusian leaders signed Agreement between Belarus and Uzbekistan on 6 November 1990, which laid the basis of intergovernmental relations.

The Agreement between the governments of Uzbekistan and Belarus on mutual travels of citizens, which was signed in January 2005, can be given as a vivid example of bilateral political relations activation, envoy said. The document set non-visa regime of travels.

In the opinion of Demchuk, Belarus and Uzbekistan have similar positions on such modern issues, as terrorism, drug trafficking, reformation of CIS, OSCE, UN, etc. The two countries are working on development of legal base of bilateral cooperation. 26 agreements and treaties have been inked so far, five documents are ready to be signed, and 12 - under approval.

The embassy jointly with Belarusian state authority bodies is constantly analysing the state of affairs and business collaboration with Uzbekistan and believes that there are vast opportunities for expanding and deepening ties in the field of political, economic, scientific and technical, as well as cultural cooperation.
