Blast wounds many in Belarus city

A small explosion outside a cafe in the Belarussian city of Vitebsk has wounded at least 36 people - the second such attack in two weeks.

The device, packed into a beer can and containing metal fragments, was buried in a flower bed in the city centre, police told a Russian news agency.

Some of the injured in Thursday night's blast needed hospital treatment.

A similar device buried in a flower bed near a bus stop went off last Thursday, injuring two people.

The Russian news agency Itar-Tass said that case was being regarded by the authorities as malicious hooliganism.

In the second attack, Belarusian television said, at least six of the bomb victims were in serious condition, including some who had been hit in the head by shrapnel.
