Belarus produced nearly 6.2 mln tonnes of grains

As of August 9, agricultural organizations of Belarus produced 6.17 mln tonnes of grains, declared the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the country.

According to operative data, Belarusian agrarians harvested grains and leguminous plants throughout 2.06 mln ha, or 84.4% of the general harvesting areas, as opposed to 48.6% on the same date of the previous year.

Agricultural organizations of Minsk oblast became the leaders of grain production. As of August 9, agrarians of the oblast produced 1.5 mln tonnes of grains.

The average yield of grains and leguminous plants totaled 30.2 c/ha, down 0.4 c/ha compared to the previous week results, and down 9 c/ha compared to the same date of the previous year.

Agricultural organizations of Grodno oblast demonstrated the best grain yield results, which totaled 41.9 c/ha.

As a reminder, the Government of Belarus plans to produce nearly 10 mln tonnes of grains in 2010. At the same time, due to rather difficult weather conditions in the current year, the general grain production will become lower compared to the forecast.

In the previous week, Vasiliy Pavlovskiy, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of Belarus, forecasted that in 2010, grain production without maize in all varieties of agricultural enterprises of the country will total nearly 8 mln tonnes. Maize grain production is planned to total nearly 1 mln tonnes.

In 2009, all varieties of agricultural enterprises of Belarus produced nearly 9 mln tonnes of grains with the average yield of 33.3 c/ha. Grain production in clean weight in the country totaled 8.51 mln tonnes, down 5.6% compared to 2008.
