Heavy rains damage grain sowings in Belarus

Heavy rains provide negative influence on conditions of grain sowings in Belarus, declared Nadejda Melchakova, the head of the department of agricultural meteorological forecasts of the Republican hydrometeorological centre of Belarus, on July 27.

Difficult weather conditions worsened agricultural meteorological situation in the country. Abundant precipitations caused overwetting of soils at the majority of Belarusian territory, and even underflooding of grain sowings at low-lying lands. Fields of Mogilev and Gomel oblasts suffered from precipitations most of all. Several agricultural economies of Vitebsk, Minsk, Breast and Grodno oblasts also faced overwetting of soils. Heavy rains with winds increased lodging areas of grains and rapeseed.

General grain humidity increased in the country and totaled 20-40%, marked the specialist.
