SOCHI, August 27 (Itar-Tass) - Presidential aide Sergei Prikhodko noted "progress" in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Belarus with Russia's assistance.

The Russian presidential aide commented on the results of the talks between Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and his Belarussian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko.

Cooperation in nuclear power engineering was a separate issues of the talks and "was thoroughly discussed" by the leaders of the two countries, Prikhodko said.

Corresponding instructions will be given to Rosatom head Sergei Kiriyenko and Belarussian structures, he added.

On August 10, Russia and Belarus coordinated a draft agreement to build a nuclear power plant in the territory of Belarus and discussed technical issues. "The next step is to reach agreement on the draft document by the corresponding agencies," the Atomstroiexport press service reported.

The Supreme Council of the Russian-Belarusian Union State may gather in Moscow in the first half of December 2009, presidential aide Sergei Prikhodko told journalists.

The aide said Medvedev and Lukashenko had determined the schedule of further contacts.

In particular, they agreed to take part in the West 2009 exercises to be held in the territory of Belarus on September 29, 2009. "The Russian president also expressed readiness to take part in a session of the EurAsEC Interstate Council due to gather in Minsk on November 27," Prikhodko said.

During the EurAsEC summit, the Russian and Belarussian presidents are expected to have a bilateral meeting.

"We hope that joint efforts will help make the session of the Supreme Council of the Russian-Belarusian Union State successful. The session will be held in Moscow in the first half of December 2009," Prikhodko said.

In addition, Prikhodko noted "progress" in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Belarus with Russia's assistance.

Cooperation in nuclear power engineering was a separate issues of the talks and "was thoroughly discussed" by the leaders of the two countries, Prikhodko said.

Corresponding instructions will be given to Rosatom head Sergei Kiriyenko and Belarussian structures, he added.

The aide said Belarus intends to get back presidency in the CSTO. "After the upcoming consultations with other partners Belarus would like to get back presidency in the organisation."

He recalled that these functions "are fulfilled by Russia". "We intend Belarus' intention and we hope that this issue will be solved soon," the aide added.

Belarus should have assumed the CSTO rotating presidency after Armenia at the organisation's summit in Moscow in June. But President Lukashenko refused to take part in the meeting and Russia took over the CSTO chairmanship.
