Belarus Partly Repays Gas Debt to Gazprom

Belarus has made a first $190 million payment out of its $456 million debt to Russia.

Belarus has made a first $190 million payment out of its $456 million debt to Russia for gas deliveries to avoid having its supplies halved, Interfax news agency reported on Friday.

The agency quoted Belarus' gas pipeline firm Beltransgas as saying the partial payment had been made.

Gazprom said earlier on Friday last-ditch talks between the two sides were still going on in Moscow. It had threatened to halve Belarus gas supplies if the debt was not paid by Friday
