Belarus will pay Gazprom in full this week - National Bank chairman
MINSK. Aug 6 (Interfax) - Belarussian National Bank Chairman Pyotr Prokopovich has informed President Alexander Lukashenko that payment to Gazprom (RTS: GAZP) for gas will be made in full this week.
The Belarussian president's press service said that the payment would not have a negative impact on the country's gold and forex reserves.
"And in the future the situation will be such that gold and forex reserves will not fall, even despite the significant payments that we will carry out this week: we will settle with Gazprom in full for gas," the National Bank chairman said.
Prokopovich said that timely measures by the government and National Bank "will make it possible to restore gold and forex reserves in the coming month, and by September 1 they will not be lower than on August 1."
