No terrorist organizations active in Belarus - KGB

Council of Ministers of Belarus is discussing the conducting and publication of the enumeration of terrorist organizations, news agency Interfax reports. Belarus KGB emphasizes that in the territory of Belarus' no one terrorist organization is functioning, the Chief of the Centre of information and Public Relations of the State Security Committee, Valery Nadtochayev, said. According to him, simultaneously "attempts are observed of manifestations of extremism and terrorism regarding Belarus from the side of those determined to circulate this abroad". It is reminded that the KGB repeatedly warned about this, in particular, during this March on the eve of the presidential elections. Belarus secret services together with the Russian colleagues have been taking measures for the revealing of terrorist organizations. On August 19 this year Council of Ministers of Belarus' published its decision ? 1061 about the order of conducting and publication of the enumeration of terrorist organizations. Document provided that this enumeration was conducted by the State Securitt Committee on the basis of the resolutions of the Supreme Court of Belarus' about the acknowledgement of organizations as terrorist. The enumeration of terrorist organizations is subject to publication in the newspapers Respubl?ka, Narodnaya gazeta and Zvyazda within the three-day period from the day of receiving it from the KGB.

Commenting on this decision, Nadtochayev noted that the calculation of terrorist organizations was important, since it makes it possible to take timely measures for their neutralization, to track and to suppress attempts of penetration to the territory of Belarus', news agency BELTA reports. Within the framework of combating of terrorism the KGB closely interacts with the secret services of Russia, the CIS countries, and the interested law-enforcement agencies of other foreign states.

4 In May 2006 the head of the KGB of Belarus', Stepan Sukhorenko, stated that in Belarus' before the elections there a large quantity of explosives, weapons and ammunition was revealed. Many figurants were discovered, who were potentially ready to similar actions, pursuing not political, but hooligan motives, refined the chief of the Belarus KGB. Sukhorenko also noted then that the investigation on the fact of the preparation of the overthrow of the President Lukashenko proved the participation in it of foreign citizens.
