IMT to produce 2,500 tractors this year

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Regional Development Mladjan Dinkic said today that thanks to government measures, motor and tractor plant IMT will produce 2,500 tractors this year, three times more than last year.

He announced the government will invest funds for the modernisation of Rakovica motor plant IMR.

Dinkic said that IMT will merge with IMR and will produce ecologically friendly tractors.

The merger will produce a regional leader in the production of tractors, Dinkic said.

Serbia offered Belarus an agreement on business and technical cooperation he said and added that the Serbian and Belarusian tractor factories will cooperate.

Serbia has already proposed that Belarus signs an agreement on cooperation in tractor manufacturing, according to which Belarusian tractors will be manufactured in Rakovica. As soon as we see the first results of the cooperation we will know whether a strategic partnership should be developed further, stressed Dinkic.

The site of IMT will be sold and used for the construction of flats and any buyer will have to take over IMT and IMR's debts.

The Minister pointed out that IMT and IMR will work together as a public company until a strategic partner is found.
