Vandals paint Lithuanian embassy

In cooperation with Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

MINSK- In Minsk, on the night of July 25, a group of vandals painted the hammer and sickle, and other Bolshevik symbols on the Lithuanian embassy.

Authorities say that this was a in retaliation to the Lithuanian law passed June 2008 that prohibits the use of Bolshevik and Communist symbols, likenesses of former leaders, or Nazi symbols.

Bottles with notes regarding people's views about the law were also found by the embassy.

Officers at the embassy noticed the commotion and Belarusian authorities were notified, and the case is now under investigation.

According to a press release from the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lithuanian Ambassador to Belarus, Edminas Bagdonas said firmly that the situation must be clarified. According to the 1961 Vienna Convention, the perpetrators should be tracked down and brought to justice.
