Belarus invites CIS, OSCE election observers - Foreign Ministry

MINSK. July 10 (Interfax) - Minsk hopes that CIS and OSCE election observers will evaluate fairly the upcoming Belarusian parliament election, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry told Interfax on Thursday.

"We hope that reports of international election observers will be fair and based on facts," the ministry said.

"In contrast to certain Western member countries of the OSCE, Belarus has legalized broad rights of international election observers," the ministry said.

"At the same time, they [observers] have certain responsibilities and we hope they [responsibilities] will be honored. First of all, it is the question of non-interference in the election process and the strict compliance with national laws," the ministry said.

"Belarus will ensure appropriate conditions for international election observers, so that they could worthily fulfill their mission," the ministry said.

Belarus will elect members of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly on September 28, 2008.
