Belarus: Petrochemical company launches non-woven fabric production line

MINSK: Petrochemical company Svetlogorsk Production Association Khimvolokno has started a new line for manufacturing non-woven fabric, with the designed capacity as large as 2,000 tonnes per annum.

Svetlogorsk-based production corporation Khimvolokno is one of the largest petrochemical companies in Belarus. The company combines a polyester continuous filament yarn plant and an artificial fibre plant. The company employs over 6,000 people. It was founded in 1964.

Pilot batches of fabric have been shipped to customers for appraisal. The line is designed to produce thermal bonded and flooring needle-punched fabrics, including calendered and impregnated ones. The manufacturing line uses polyester, viscose, and polyoxadiazole fibers. The company plans to use the production line to manufacture 600 tonnes of thermal bonded fabric and 1.4 million tonnes of needle-punched fabric per annum.

The products can be used as padding for roofing materials, padding for linoleum, padding and stuffing material in automobile, furniture and garment industries.

In 2007 Svetlogorsk Khimvolokno started producing composite entangled yarn, with the output capacity as large as 145 tonnes per annum. The company also commissioned equipment for producing 2,400 tonnes of fixed-ratio and fixed-length textured yarn annually. In Q2 2007 Svetlogorsk Khimvolokno started producing polyether sparkle knit-de-knit yarn. Long entangling yarn was another novelty, which improves yarn?s compactness.

In 2006 the company invested Br29.214 billion in different projects. In 2007 the figure is expected to increase amid major plans to introduce the latest technologies and equipment and to master new products. The retooling and development expenses are expected to cost Br52.85 billion.
