Belarus: in January-May grain import increased by 71.4%

According to Ministry of Statistics and Analysis, in January-May 2007, Belarus imported 416.752 tons of grains, up 71.4% as compared to the analogous period of previous year. As for value terms, grains import during this period totaled $91.5 mln, up two times as compared to the same period in 2006.

During this period, Kazakhstan delivered the largest grain volume - 165.600 tons. At that, last year the imported volume of Kazakh grain was 24.500 tons.

Besides, during the current year Ukraine exported 156.200 tons of grains, up 21% as compared to January-May 2006. As for Russia, this country exported 67.700 tons of grains, up 3.2 times as compared to January-May 2006.

During the indicated period, Moldova delivered 10.200 tons of grains, up 50.5% as compared to the analogous period last year, Pakistan - 5.700 tons (down 10.1%), India - 4.200 tons (up 60%). France, Vietnam, Germany and Lithuania were also among the main suppliers of grains to Belarus.
