Belarus, Venezuela to sign 1-bln-dollar contracts: reports

Belarus and Venezuela will sign military and industrial contracts worth about 1 billion U.S. dollars later this month, news agencies reported on Monday.

"We drafted and coordinated with the Venezuelan Defense Ministry on contracts worth over one billion dollars, and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has approved them," Interfax quoted secretary of the Belarusian Security Council Viktor Sheiman as saying.

The reports did not give details of those contracts but said they were the results of a Belarusian delegation's visit to Caracas and would be inked by the end of July.

Both in rows with the United States, Belarus and Venezuela have striven to enhance ties in recent years.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko told Chavez in Minsk in June that the two countries shared "absolutely identical" views on international affairs, which forged "a reliable basis for close cooperation and mutual support in the international arena."
