Iran-Belarus-Ties /POL Iran, Belarus foreign ministers call for expansion of mutual ties

Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and his Belarussian counterpart Sergei Martynov in Minsk on Saturday emphasized he need for expansion of bilateral relations.

The two foreign ministers said that they would take practical steps to upgrade Tehran-Minsk relations.

They explored the latest developments of Iran-Belarus bilateral and the regional issues.

Mottaki referred to the serious determination of Iranian and Belarussian presidents to expand mutual relations, calling for implementing plans to serve the goal.

He said that the parliaments have effective role to help implement the foreign policies through passing legislation to that effect adding that presence of MPs in the Iranian delegation to Minsk would be useful for coordination of foreign policy with Majlis.

Mottaki said that the two countries enjoy potentials for economic cooperation in the field of economy, trade, industry, re-export capacity, setting up cement and car-manufacturing plants, which should be utilized as per aspirations of the two presidents soon.

On his part, Martynov presented an upbeat assessment of Tehran-Minsk current relations, saying that both Iranian and Belarus presidents have offered a satisfactory action plan for speeding up implementation of the joint economic projects.

The role of parliaments of the two countries is essential for carrying out mutual agreements, he said.

He briefed Mottaki on implementing the industrial, oil and trade projects, and said that according to the Belarus president's order, Minsk is ready to present report on step by step executive works of the projects through regular consultations with Iranian officials.
