Children from former Soviet Union receiving medical treatment in our area
Story by Martina Bills Email | Bio
Several local families are reaching out to help children affected after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
The Belarussian Relief Ministry has brought more than 700 children from Belarus to the United States this summer, sixteen of the kids are staying right here in our region.
Although the Chernobyl nuclear explosion happened 20 years ago, toxic levels of radiation are still present, and still causing health problems.
The six week stay literally gives the kids a breath of fresh air, and each host family gets them checked out by local doctors.
