Belarus Expels Another Polish Diplomat

(RFE/RL)

26 July 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Belarus today expelled a Polish diplomat, the latest in a series of expulsions between Poland and Belarus.

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry released a statement saying that Polish diplomat Andrzej Olborski must leave Belarus within 10 days.

The ministry says the expulsion is a retaliation for Poland's decision to expel a Belarusian diplomat on 25 July.

Olborski is the third Polish diplomat to be expelled from Belarus in two months.

The tit-for-tat expulsions, now in their third round, started after Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka accused Poland of interfering in Belarus's internal affairs.

Belarus and Poland dispute who started the current round of expulsions.

Belarus has also expelled a Czech diplomat and a U.S. professor this year.
