Belarus Orders Expulsion Of Polish Diplomat

(RFE/RL)

16 July 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Belarus said yesterday it is expelling a Polish diplomat, in the latest diplomatic tit-for-tat expulsion between the two neighbors.

Belarus has given Andrzej Buczak, an adviser in the Polish Embassy in Minsk, until 21 July to leave the country in retaliation for the expulsion of a Belarus diplomat from Poland.

Poland and Belarus dispute who started the round of diplomatic expulsions.

Warsaw says Minsk triggered the dispute in May when it ordered the expulsion of Polish Embassy First Secretary Marek Bucko for actions aimed at "destabilizing" Belarus.

Belarus said Poland had ordered the expulsion of one of its diplomats weeks earlier and that was why it ordered Bucko out.
