Poland recalls envoy from Belarus

Poland-Belarus relations continue to worsen over accusations by Belarus' president that the Polish minority in his country is trying to oust him.

Poland recalled its ambassador Thursday, a day after Belarusian police raided the headquarters of an organization representing ethnic Poles and briefly detained its leader, the BBC reported.

About 400,000 ethnic Poles live in areas of Belarus that were part of Poland until World War II, the report said.

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has accused Poland of interfering in his country's affairs and seeking to provoke mass protests against his government.

Poland says Lukashenkos government is persecuting the Polish community.
