Belarus - Forestry industry development program for 2011-2015 to be drafted by 1 September

The forestry industry development program for 2011-2015 will be drafted by 1 September, Forestry Minister Mikhail Amelyanovich said at a session of the Presidium of the Council of Ministers.

The development of the new program is envisaged in the plan of action to develop the forestry industry prepared by the Forestry Ministry.

The new program will be designed to improve the quality of forestry management through the use of advanced technologies, increase the productivity and sustainability by means of intensifying the age and species composition of forests, the minister said.

"The ministry hopes the program will help increase the wood reserves, the volume of forest utilization and profits of the forestry industry," the minister noted.

One of the priorities is to improve the forest management. The efforts will be stepped up to clear forests along the motorways, towns and villages. Control over the observation of the forest and environmental legislation will be reinforced, Mikhail Amelyanovich said.
