Belarus, China have big potential for cooperation

Belarus and China have a big potential for cooperation, Vice Premier of Belarus Vladimir Semashko said as he met with Deputy Commerce Minister of China, Chairman of the Chinese part of the Belarus-China commission for trade and economic cooperation Gao Hucheng on 28 June.

"We believe our relations have a much bigger potential," Vladimir Semashko stated.

According to the First Vice Premier, Belarus praises political, economic and financial cooperation with China. Chinese companies with their financial resources take part in an array of large projects in Belarus, including the construction of new cement plants and CHP plants upgrading. The Belarusian leader pays great attention to the development of cooperation between the two countries.

Vladimir Semashko reminded that on 25 June the President hosted a session on Belarus-China economic cooperation. "The pivot of the relations is a Chinese USD 15 billion credit line opened for Belarus," the First Vice Premier noted. Belarus has already implemented over a hundred of large projects with the help of the loan.

In 2003-2009 China put nearly USD 232 million of investments in the Belarusian economy.

China is one of Belarus' most important foreign trade partners. Last year the country ranked 5th in Belarus' trade, 11th in its export and 2nd in the non-CIS import. Belarus' main exports to China have recently been potash fertilizers, caprolactam, mine trucks and component parts, electronic integrated circuits and microassembly, chemical products. Belarus imports Chinese equipment, components and materials for export-based facilities in Belarus, consumer goods.
