Gazprom owes nothing to Belarus - Russia

Gazprom owes nothing to Belarus under the current agreement, Gazprom spokesman Sergey Kupryanov stated on Friday commenting on a statement by Belarus' president.

Alexander Lukashenko said the transit of Russian gas will be suspended if the country doesn't pay its transit debt.

On Thursday, Belarus paid off its gas debt and said Gazprom owes it 260 mln dollars for the transit. Russia's gas giant paid 228 mln dollars according to the current rate, while Minsk unilaterally introduced a higher rate.

Kupryanov said a new amended transit deal will be signed shortly.
