Belarus - President Alexander Lukashenko holds a telephone conversation with Acting President Mihai Ghimpu of the Republic of Moldova

Today, on the initiative of the Moldovan side, President Alexander Lukashenko held a telephone conversation with Acting President Mihai Ghimpu of the Republic of Moldova.

The two discussed a number of bilateral issues and agreed to give orders to the heads of their administrations to take stock of the present state of Belarusian-Moldovan relations in all fields in order for the presidents to be able to discuss all relevant issues during their possible meeting which could take place in the near future.

Another theme raised in the course of the conversation was the prospects of interaction between Belarus and Moldova within the framework of the European Union's Eastern Partnership Initiative.

Following the request of Mihai Ghimpu, Alexander Lukashenko gave him detailed information on the Belarusian-Russian gas conflict and explained the position of the Belarusian side in it. The Moldovan Leader expressed understanding of the reasons behind the present situation.
