Belarus gas dispute affecting EU-parliament chief

MOSCOW June 22 (Reuters) - Lithuania, Poland and eastern Germany have been affected by the gas row between Russia and Belarus, the President of the European Parliament said on Tuesday.

"Early warning mechanism between Russia and EU did not work this time," Jerzy Buzek said during meeting with Russia's energy minister Sergei Shmatko.

However, Shmatko said he hopes the gas row will be short-lived and that the pressure in the pipeline that links Russia with Poland through Belarus has not decreased.

"Polish companies have not confirmed that the pressure in the pipeline fell," Shmatko said.
