Foreign Ministry: Ukraine won't intervene in gas row between Russia, Belarus

KYIV, June 22. /UKRINFORM/. Ukraine will remain neutral in the gas conflict between Russia and Belarus, said Oleh Voloshyn, head of the Information Policy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, stressing that the recent developments between the two neighboring states are purely economic in nature.

"We are in no way trying to interfere in the economic conflict. Ukraine has no intention to interfere in this story. But once again we can say that the Ukrainian gas transit system is the most reliable transit route for the Russian gas and energy sources," said Voloshyn.

As UKRINFORM reported, Russia's Gazprom on Monday limited gas supplies to Belarus demanding that the latter pays off debts for gas deliveries. Belarus, in response, stated about Russia's transit debts.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin did not rule out "reorientation" of the gas flow running through Belarus to Europe to "other routes", including the Ukrainian gas transit system.
