Poland: The Prime Minister meets Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus

Belarusian political and economic relations were the main subjects discussed at the meeting of Polish Prime Minster Donald Tusk with the Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus, Andrey Kobyakov. The PM has underlined the will and need to improve Polish - Belarusian relations. - We expect increasingly frequent mutual signs of openness - he said.

Donald Tusk believes that the are few conflicts in bilateral relations, however those that are there must be taken seriously. He stressed the fact that there is no historical reason for mutual dislike, which would be the most difficult to eliminate. He further added that Poland and Belarus are average-size countries, with comparable potential, and relations are always best when partners are equal.

The politicians also discussed the situation of the Association of Poles in Belarus. PM Tusk has indicated the need to respect the rights of minorities in line with European standards and stressed that these issues will remain a priority for the Polish side.

Deputy Prime Minister Kobyakov expressed his satisfaction with the improvement of Polish-Belarusian relations. He also added that Belarus appreciates its participation in the Eastern Partnership project and counts on Polish support in Belarus's dialogue with the European Union. He has also extended an invitation to Polish business, welcoming it to invest in Belarus.

Prime Minister Tusk has also participated in the plenary session of the 1st Economic Summit Poland-Belarus.
