Ukraine resumed electricity exports to Belarus

Ukrainian Fuel and Energy Ministry reported.

A request by Belarus-based Company Belenergo foresees that by the end of June 2009, Ukraine will supply 130 megawatts of electricity at night and 185 megawatts in the daytime. The Ukrinterenergo State Foreign Trade Company and Belenergo Company signed a respective contract in May 2009. In January, Ukraine proposed Belarus import three billion kWh of Ukrainian electricity in 2009. Late in June 2007, Ukrinterenergo suspended electricity exports to Belarus due to the National Electricity Regulatory Commission's order to buy electricity for export at prices that are not lower than those on the market. In 2008 compared to 2007, electricity exports fell by 14.5% or 1.332 billion kWh, to 7.868 billion kWh.
