Russia resumes dairy imports from Belarus

MOSCOW, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Russia has resumed imports of Belarusian dairy products on Friday, local media reported.

Russia imposed a controversial ban on Belarusian dairy products, one of its key exports, earlier this month, saying producers in the neighboring republic failed to comply with new Russian standards introduced last year.

Gennady Onishchenko, Russia's chief sanitary official, held talks with the Belarusian agriculture and health minister in Moscow on Wednesday in a bid to address the dispute.

"We have signed a protocol satisfying both the Belarusian and Russian sides now," and the first deliveries will be crossing the border on Thursday morning, Onishchenko told reporters after the talks.

Russia's ban on Belarusian dairy products triggered a furious response from Minsk, which boycotted a summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in Moscow on Sunday.
