Belarus experts to visit Moscow Monday to discuss 'milk problem'

MOSCOW, June 14 (Itar-Tass) - Belarus' experts will arrive in Moscow on Monday to continue consultations "on the milk problem," Russia's chief sanitary doctor Gennady Onishchenko said on Sunday.

He underlined that Belarus' dairy products "will return to the Russian market, when they meet the Russian legislation."

The head of Rospotrebnadzor (trade & sanitary inspection authority), said he has received the list of milk and dairy products that will be exported from Belarus to Russia. The submission of this list was one of the agreements reached during Russian-Belarusian consultations in Moscow on June 10-11.

Onishchenko stressed that Belarus' milk producers were repeatedly warned over the need to comply with Russia's new technical regulations that entered into force on December 17, 2008.

"This is the Russian law that should be complied with and not be commented on by these or those government bodies," he said.

"At present, there are 51 sanitary and epidemiological conclusions or hygiene certificates of registration of milk and dairy products supplied from Belarus to Russia. The rest are not valid. Therefore dairy products cannot be imported," Onishchenko said.
