Ukraine, Belarus Agree To Renew Supplies Of Ukrainian Electricity As Soon As Possible

The FINANCIAL -- Ukraine and Belarus have agreed to renew exports of Ukrainian electricity as soon as possible.

Belarusian Prime Minister Sergey Sidorsky announced this during a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko with the participation of governmental delegations of Ukraine and Belarus.

He said the agreement was achieved during a face-to-face meeting with Tymoshenko earlier in the day.

"The contract takes effect from today," the Belarusian premier said.

Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said in turn she has instructed Fuel and Energy Minister Yurii Prodan to renew the exports of Ukrainian electricity to Belarus as soon as possible.

Ahead of the meeting between the two prime ministers, which yielded the agreement, Prodan said the exports of the Ukrainian electricity to Belarus could be renewed next week [June 15 through June 21].

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Ukrainian state enterprise for foreign economic activities Ukrinterenerho and Belarus' company Belenergo have agreed to renew exports of Ukrainian electricity from June until the end of 2009.
