Etihad to fly to Belarus

by Tamara Walid

Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways will become the first airline from the Gulf region to fly to Belarus when it launches flights to the country's capital, Minsk, at the beginning of August.

The route is expected to help boost trade links and investment ties between the UAE and Belarus, with the volume of trade between the two countries standing at more than $40 million per year, Etihad CEO James Hogan said in a statement on Tuesday.

The move follows talks held in Abu Dhabi last year between UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus.

Etihad will start flying passengers to Minsk twice a week in one of its new Airbus A319 every Tuesday and Thursday and a third weekly flight will be added every Saturday from October.
