Belarus' GDP 10.4% up in January-May

In January-May, 2008, the gross domestic product of Belarus made up Br43.917 trillion, or 10.4% up in comparable prices over the same period last year, the Ministry of Statistics and Analysis told BelTA.

Over the five months this year, the industrial output swelled by 13.3% (according to the decree the annual target stands at 8-9%) to make up more than Br51.179 trillion, consumer goods output - 14.2 %(9-10%), to make up Br9.5 trillion. The production of foods went up by 14.9% (the forecast is pegged at 8-9%), to make up Br4.691 trillion. Over the five months, the production of non-foods increased by 13.7 (10-11%), to make up Br4.2 trillion. The production of alcoholic beverages increased by 13% over January-May 2007, to make up Br611.3 billion.

In line with the Council of Ministers' resolution No 8 this year the GDP is to grow by 11%. Decree No 656 "Establishment of the most important figures of the 2008 national social and economic development forecast" set the figure at 8-9%.

According to the Ministry of Statistics and Analysis, in January-April this year, the energy intensity of the gross domestic product of Belarus downed by 5.9% (the forecast is pegged at 7-8%). In the period under review, the profitability of the sold industrial products made up 17.4% (the forecast is pegged at 12-13%).
