MINSK. June 4 (Interfax) - The state commission for the selection of a site for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Belarus is leaning towards Kukshinovo.
The commission has submitted an early report on the progress of exploration to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and the Cabinet.
"The state commission has ranked the sites in the following order: Kukshinovo comes first, Ostrovets second and Krasnaya Polyana third," Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk said at a session of the commission for industry, energy, transportation, communications and business of the lower house of the Belarusian parliament. The commission mulled a bill on the use of nuclear energy.
"All sites are being studied. Feasibility studies are to be compared," he said. "There are no restrictive factors for the construction of an NPP in any of them but each of them is specific," Mikhadyuk said.
