Russia likely to extend loan to Belarus
RBC, 06.06.2007, Moscow 18:40:38.Russia is currently looking into the possibility of extending a loan to Belarus, Russian Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin told journalists today, commenting on Belarus' announcement that it was hoping to take out two loans worth $1bn and $500m in 2007 and 2008, respectively. Kudrin explained that Russia and Belarus were in talks over the amount of the loans. The minister also said that this was "an unprecedented kind of loan" and therefore, any decision about it was an economic matter for both countries. He added that Russia was considering many aspects of the Belarusian economy and the republic's possible use of these loans. Kudrin believes that Russia could make the decision in the near future.
