Gazprom pays 625 mln usd for 12.5 pct in Belarus' gas pipeline network

MINSK (Thomson Financial) - Gazprom, Russia's government-controlled natural gas monopoly, has paid 625 mln usd to the Belarusian government to acquire a 12.5 pct stake in Beltranshaz, Belarus' gas pipeline network, BelaPAN news service reported, citing official information sources.

Under a contract signed in Minsk on May 18, Gazprom was to make the payment within the following 20 working days.

The Belarusian party will now have to release control over the 12.5 pct stake to Gazprom within 10 days.

Under an agreement signed in Moscow on December 31, 2006, Gazprom was to acquire a 50 pct stake worth 2.5 bln usd in Beltranshaz by June 1, 2010 to form a joint gas transport company, BelaPAN said.
