Venezuela looks for brotherly love from Belarus

Venezuela's President has met his Belarusian counterpart.

Fittingly there was a warm embrace between what Hugo Chavez calls "brothers against a world empire."

It is the second time in less than a year that Chavez and Alexander Lukashenko have held talks on pursuing joint economic and energy projects.

Chavez arrived from Moscow, where he also praised the Russian President who has been at odds with Washington on several issues, including Nato's missile defence system plan.

But in a sign the Kremlin wanted to keep his trip low-key the Venezuelan leader was not invited to address the full chamber of the Duma, the lower house of parliament.

Nevertheless, the Venezuelan leader, who wants to forge an alliance of leftist states to counter US policy, renewed pledges for the Venezuela, Belarus and Russia to support each other.
