Former Belneftekhim director charged on three counts

MINSK, June 25 (Itar-Tass) - The former head of Belneftekhim, a state-owned oil and petrochemical concern, has been charged on three counts, Prosecutor General Pyotr Miklashevich said on Monday.

Borovsky was accused of grand theft, abuse of office and divulging of service secrets.

According to preliminary information, his criminal actions caused losses running into millions of dollars, Miklashevich said, adding that the criminal case included episodes related to supplies of Russian oil and sale of petroleum products.

"So far, Belarussian investigators have no need for contact with Russian colleagues, because all the crimes were committed in Belarus," he noted.

Borovsky, chairman of Belneftekhim was detained on May 29.

Together with Belneftekhim chief, several other senior executives from the state-run concern and commercial companies were detained and put in a remand ward. "In the course of preliminary investigation, law-enforcement bodies seized from them large sums of money, valuables and documents related to the crime," Miklashevich said.

Under Belarussian legislation, grand theft is punishable by five to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
