Russia wants to take part in Belarus power plant construction

MINSK, June 25 (Itar-Tass) - Russia is interested in taking part in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Belarus, the deputy head of the Federal Atomic Energy Agency, Andrei Malyshev, said on Monday.

Russia "is certainly interested" in participating in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Belarus for several reasons, said Malyshev, who takes part in the ninth session of the CIS commission on peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

First of all "we have a common technological base, a common basis of fundamental science and education," he said. "Secondly, Belarus is our strategic partner," Malyshev added.

As soon as the Belarussian government makes an official decision on the construction of a power plant, "Russia will do everything to participate in that project," the official stressed.
