Belarus plans reforms of energy sector

MINSK, Belarus, June 28 (UPI) -- The Belarusian Energy Ministry is planning to reorganize its energy, fuel and gas concerns.

The Ministry of Energy has proposed that Belarusian state energy concern, Belenerha, and Belarusian state fuel and gas concern, Belpaliwhaz, be transformed into a production association.

The proposal is expected to be submitted to President Aleksander Lukashenko for consideration on July 1, an aide to the Energy Minister Andrey Zhukaw, told Belapan news agency.

"They once were independent entities subordinate to the cabinet. Now they have been placed under the authority of the ministry and some functions have started to overlap. As a result of reorganization, the function of state government would be completely removed from them because the ministry has it," he said.

"The reform will not end with this, but now we should establish a system," he said.
