Belarus begins dismantling Polish organization, Polish minister warns

Warsaw, 8 June: Poles in Belarus shall do what they can to survive and maintain property obtained from Polish taxpayers, Andzelika Boris, chairwoman of the Union of Poles in Belarus [ZPB], told the meeting with the Sejm [lower house of parliament] Commission for Liaisons with Poles Abroad on Wednesday [7 June].

"We shall not allow the ZPB to become a subject of political manipulations," Boris said. She admitted that the ZPB had found itself in a crisis situation and had no room for its normal activities. She emphasized that Belarusian authorities had for a long time been slandering the Polish foreign service, the Polish state and that there were frequent provocations which the former ZPB authorities had been manoeuvred into, including its leader, Tadeusz Kruczkowski.

Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Jakub Wolski emphasized that the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs had unequivocally negatively assessed the situation in Belarus in relation to the ZPB. He added that repression by the Belarusian authorities against the ZPB leadership had intensified. Relevant Belarusian authorities are beginning to dismantle branches and provincial structures of the ZPB, Wolski warned.
