Kyrgyzstan asks Belarus to extradite ousted president Bakiyev

MOSCOW, May 7 (PRIME-TASS) -- The Kyrgyz Prosecutor General's Office has officially asked the Belarusian Prosecutor General's Office to extradite ousted Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, said Azinbek Beknazarov, deputy prime minister for the judicial system in the Kyrgyz interim government, ITAR-TASS reported Friday.

Bakiyev has been stripped of immunity and charged in his absence with abuse of power and complicity in murder, Beknazarov said.

Bakiyev, who is currently in Belarus, was overthrown in April and fled the country as a result of civil unrest.
