Kyrgyzstan asks Belarus to extradite Bakiyev

BISHKEK, May 7 (Itar-Tass) -- Under the Chisinau CIS convention on legal assistance and legal relations in all types of cases the Kyrgyz Prosecutor General's Office has made an official request to the Belarusian Prosecutor General's Office for extradition of Kurmanbek Bakiyev in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Deputy Prime Minister for the judicial system of the interim government Azinbek Beknazarov said on Friday.

The Kyrgyz interim government decreed to strip Kurmanbek Bakiyev of immunity. "He was charged in absentia with office abuse that entailed grave consequences and with the involvement in the murder of two and more people," Beknazarov said. The court ruled to put Bakiyev into custody, he noted.

"Apart from Lukashenko the law enforcement agencies work in Belarus and should settle the problem of Bakiyev's extradition," Beknazarov pointed out.
