Russia: control of Belarus gas grid won't fix issues

LAPPEENRANTA, Finland, May 27 (Reuters) - Control of the national Belarussian gas grid by a Russian company will not solve existing problems in negotiations between the two nations over energy prices, Russia's energy minister said on Thursday.

Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko said earlier that Belarus was ready to sell control of its gas pipeline system and the Mozyr oil refinery to Russia in exchange for lower Russian oil and gas prices.

"Having 51 percent (of Beltransgaz) does not solve the problem," Sergei Shmatko told reporters on the sidelines of President Vladimir Putin's visit to Finland.
