Belarus president says West rejected closer ties

MINSK, May 4 (Reuters) - Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko criticised the West on Tuesday, saying he expected stronger support in response to what he called costly steps to improve long-strained ties with Europe and the United States.

In an interview with Reuters, Lukashenko lamented his "unrealized hopes" of closer relations with the West. "I cannot even talk about all the steps I have taken that are very sensitive for us -- and the West cast me aside," he said.
