Belarus: shortage of moisture complicates spring sowing campaign

The long-term absence of rains caused the shortage of moisture in upper layer of the soil, which causes difficulties in providing of the spring sowing campaign and maturity of spring plants, declared the department of agricultural meteorological forecasts of the republican Hydrometeorological centre.

At the same time, the majority of topsoil of agricultural land areas of the country has rather efficient moisture reserves. Several regions of Gomel oblast, western regions of Brest and Grodno oblasts, and separate regions of Minsk oblast faced the problem, according to the Hydrometeorological centre.

The condition of winter crops and spring grains is still rather good, according to estimations of the specialists of the centre. Short-term rains will improve the situation with soil moistening in several regions.
