Akhmetov's DTEK inks electricity export deal with Belarus

Interfax-Ukraine

Kyiv, May 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Skhidenergo Ltd (a.k.a. Vostokenergo), part of Donetsk-based Donbas Fuel-Energy Company (DTEK) owned by Ukraine's richest man, Rinat Akhmetov, has inked an agreement to kick start electricity exports to Belarus. The agreement, made public on Thursday by DTEK's press service, was signed with Belarus' MG-Motor on May 19, 2009. It involves the supply of 250 MW of Ukrainian electricity, DTEK added.

The press service said that the contract would expire at the end of this year. The price of electricity would be defined after the agreement of the electricity export possibility.

"At present, Skhidenergo is waiting for the agreement of the electricity export possibility by the Ukrainian Fuel and Energy Ministry and the National Electricity Regulatory Commission," DTEK said.

Earlier, Fuel and Energy Minister Yuriy Prodan said that Ukraine would resume commercial supplies of electricity to Belarus from June 2009.
