Belarus Has Not Received Proposals on Pumping Oil Through Odesa- Brody Pipeline - Belneftekhim

MINSK. May 27 (Interfax) - Belarus has not received proposals on joining a project on pumping oil through the Odesa-Brody oil pipeline, Mikhail Osipenko, a deputy chairman of the Belneftekhim concern, said in Minsk on Tuesday.

"Such plans existed in previous years as well, but Belarus has still not received any specific proposals," Osipenko said.

Moreover, Osipenko suggested that Belneftekhim had information that the company pumping certain amounts of oil from Brody to Odesa was not notified that the pipeline would start working in the opposite direction.

In any case, Belarus will decide whether to take part in the project or not only after consultations with Russia, Osipenko said. "If we have a relevant proposal on Belarus' participation, I believe we will submit this proposal to the government following consultations with Russia," he said.

At the first stage of the project, "discussions are under way on building a pipe line toward Gdansk," Osipenko said. A feasibility study on building a pipe connection between Bobovichi and Kostyukovichi has already been drafted, Osipenko said. The connection should tie the southern branch with Odesa and the northern branch, which passes through Novopolotsk to Ventspils, he said.

"What we need above all is a guarantee that oil will be pumped through this pipe," Osipenko said.

Ukrainian officials earlier announced plans to start transporting Caspian oil through this pipeline in the opposite direction.
